Hello, I'm Tafiq Akhir.

My Story

 

I was introduced to health and fitness when I was a professional dancer over 21 years ago. During a lift of my partner I injured my shoulder which led to physical therapy. It was in PT that I learned that exercise could be used to heal, strengthen and restore the body. Prior to that I had only though of exercise for its aesthetic benefits. I was fascinated by everything I saw during physical therapy and wanted to learn and know more. My physical therapist saw my passion and allowed me to watch and learn after I completed my treatment. After a few months she recommended that I look into personal training as a starting point. That was the beginning of my fitness career.

After working as a personal trainer for a few years I decided to upgrade my education with nutrition and wellness, which was another "aha" moment for me. I had grown up watching my mother struggle with health and weight issues for most of her adult life. Everything from high blood pressure, osteoporosis, hormonal and metabolic imbalances, heart disease, stroke and subsequently cancer which  took her life at the young age of 52. 

In my nutrition and wellness training I learned how nutrition can completely change the health and vitality of the body. Once I realized that every weight and health problem my mom struggled with could have been reversed, minimized, or even prevented through proper nutrition and fitness it became my mission to help as many people as I can to avoid the health and weight struggles, that my mother, myself and many others begin experiencing after 40.

When my own personal health and weight struggles began in my early forties. The unexplained belly fat, swelling and joint pain, hormonal imbalances, chronic fatigue and depression took a toll on my body and subsequently lead to a stroke. After my stroke I made the decision to focus soley on improving my health and vitality through my personal nutrition and wellness needs for 90% of each day. By changing my approach to nutrition and fitness with a focus on health, vitality and longevity instead of weight loss, appearance and muscle size I completely restored my health and truly renewed  my life. I'm healthier, I have no inflammation or fatigue, I have increased lean muscle which helps to strengthen my bones.  I also reversed a pre-diabetes diagnosis, eliminated chronic knee pain after having an extensive knee surgery, I feel fully recovered from my stroke and I lost over 40 pounds without ever cutting calories or doing overly strenuous workouts.
